ISO 27001 is an international standard for managing information security. Many organizations in Saudi Arabia and the UAE pursue it to win customers, meet partner requirements or structure their security program.
The main stages
- Define the scope: which business units, systems and locations are included.
- Assess risk and build a risk register with owners.
- Select controls and write policies and procedures that match how you work.
- Implement and gather evidence of operation.
- Run internal audit and management review.
- Undergo certification audit by an accredited body.
Relationship to local frameworks
National frameworks such as NCA ECC in Saudi Arabia and DESC in Dubai have their own control sets. Many controls overlap with ISO 27001, so work done for one can often support another. Confirm requirements with your regulator or auditor.
Where projects stall
Scope that is too broad, policies copied from templates that nobody follows, and no named owners for risks. Keep scope realistic and policies short and practical.
