Pixel pitch is the distance in millimetres between the centres of two LEDs. Smaller pitch means higher resolution and a higher price, so the aim is the largest pitch that still looks smooth from where people actually stand.
A simple rule of thumb
The minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres is roughly equal to the pixel pitch in millimetres, and many designers prefer to allow a little more. A 2.5 mm wall is comfortable from about 3 metres and beyond.
Other factors
- Brightness: lobbies with daylight need far more than dim boardrooms.
- Content: detailed data and text need finer pitch than video and graphics.
- Aspect ratio and resolution: plan the wall to fit your sources.
- Service access: front or rear service, and the space it needs.
Do not forget the infrastructure
Power, cooling, structure, processing and control often cost as much as the panels. Include them in the budget from the start.
